A frugal apple and blackberry pie

Frugal because the blackberries came from Hampstead Heath and the apples came from my Grandma’s garden (in return for my husband being the only person present tall enough to get the apples from the top of the tree). I would normally make a giant crumble with such a bounty, but man cannot live by crumble alone and so a pie seemed in order.

Last of the summer cucumber – Chicken in oyster sauce

Cooked cucumber? Yes, and its delicious. Oyster sauce is my go to stir fry sauce, and although any mixture of veg will do, I like to stick to one and cucumber is a favourite. Cooked for only a minute or two, it stays crunchy and its grassy freshness is the perfect foil to the sticky, salty sauce. Continue reading
